Welcome to the Year 1 page!
We are very busy in Year 1. We have lots of fun learning through focused and play activities (bubbles and missions).

Our new topic for Summer Term is 'Land Ahoy!'. We will be learning all about pirates and the seven seas. We will be using a number of books to guide our learning in this area. Children will be writing their own Pirate stories and creating a fact file on famous pirates. Children will develop their geography skills through map work. As always, 'Pupil Voice' sessions will be used to explore where the children want to take their learning. Pupil voice will be further utilised in our weekly 'Pupil Voice' sessions where children will choose their independent tasks (missions) for the following week.
Please check Class Dojo regularly for updates.
Here are some useful websites to use during home learning.
Swansea Virtual School - useful resources, support and advice. https://swanseavirtualschool.org/
Oxford Owl - sign up for free access to eBooks that your child can read on screen.
BBC Bitesize - for lessons full of videos, quizzes and practice activities to help you with home learning.
Topmarks - fun maths and English online learning games.
Phonics Play - online games to support children's phonic skills.
BBC have also announced there will be a 3 hour block of primary school programming from 9am on CBBC, including BBC live lessons and BBC Bitesize Daily as well as other educational programs starting on 11th January.
Reading books will need to be in on a Monday and children will receive new reading books on a Wednesday. It is important children read to an adult every night for 5 - 10 minutes.
PE is on a Monday. Children can wear their PE kits to school (joggers, t-shirt and trainers).
Children will have a fortnightly outdoor session in the local woodlands. We will be out in all weathers, so please make sure children have appropriate clothing and wellies. Make sure wellies are clearly labelled.
